Spatial Adaptation Delta Decision

In the Spatial Adaptation Delta Decision, the Delta Programme has included proposals for making the spatial design of the Netherlands more “water robust”. All authorities and market parties share responsibility for this.

An important element of the Delta Decision on Spatial Adaptation is that all authorities have together determined that in 2050 the Netherlands must be as climate-proof and water-robust as possible. To this end, the authorities are making Spatial Adaptation Guidelines and an Incentive Programme available. The government will ensure that functions that are of significant nationwide importance or are highly vulnerable are better protected from floods by no later than 2050. Such functions include public utilities, telecom and IT, the wastewater chain, the supply of drinking water, healthcare, pumps and drainage sluices, road transport, and chemical companies and laboratories that use pathogenic substances.
