National Water Model

The National Water Model (NWM) constitutes the heart of all water management analyses conducted within the context of the Delta Programme. The NWM is a cluster of several existing models that have proven their workability and reliability in actual practice.

The NWM has evolved from the Delta Model, which was used as the basis for the calculations underpinning the Preferential Strategies and the Delta Decision on Freshwater Supply. An international review committee has provided recommendations during the development of the Delta Model in order to safeguard its quality. The NWM can be used as the basis for forecasts and impact calculations in the purview of flood risk management, freshwater supply, and water quality.
